Open Metalcast Episode #181: Fallen Back

Here at Open Metalcast Headquarters we’re nearing the end of summer and heading headlong into the most metal of seasons: Fall. Now you may say that Winter is the most metal of seasons, but I’d beg to differ with you. And because I’m doing the writing I get to say that it’s Fall and there’s very little you can do to dissuade me from this notion. What makes this season so metal? Other than leaves falling from trees, Halloween, and darkness falling ever sooner over the land I really can’t think of much else. 🙂 And we have an amazing collection of metal to lead you into fall. We have tracks from Muldjord, Petroglyphs, Colosso, Khayman, Angus Black, R.O.L.F., Maeth, and Oak Pantheon. So sit back, brew your favorite warm beverage and let the darkness fall over you.

Open Metalcast Episode #180: Non-traditional Metal

One of the things that I really like about metal music is the variety of music in the genre. Sure there are purists out there who imprint on one record and expect everything else to sound like that one record, but there’s a whole wide world of metal out there waiting to be explored. From the chromatic scales of the Middle-East to saxophones, keyboards, and folk instruments there’s a broad range of things that metal will mix with (and mix well). This episode celebrates the wide world of metal with Creative Commons metal music from The Rinn, Avercage, Nuclear, Al-Namrood, Galaktik Cancer Squad, Hatalom, CABESTRO, and Woodscream. It’s a veritable for the eclectic metal palette.

Open Metalcast Episode #179: The Map is Not the Territory

At Open Metalcast Headquarters we take pride in putting together the finest Creative Commons Metal Music available. But sometimes an episode takes on a life of its own. What started off as a pretty straightforward episode suddenly took a few unexpected turns. Not only does this show feature new metal from the comfy realm of 2018 but it also features metal that was released between 1988 – 1990. That’s like a century ago! We didn’t even know they had the Creative Commons license back then (or even the Internet) but they managed to get it into our hot little hands by way of the Irish Metal Archive. How clever! In fact several of the releases range across the years. This episode features metal music from First Fragment, Vendetta Fucking Metal, Necrovile, Hitwood, tod., Human Pollution, Kekal, and MORAL CRUSADE. And rather than wait another 30 years for this music to arrive all you’ll need to do is spend 40 minutes to enjoy it all. Cheaper than a road-trip and twice as fun. Hope you enjoy!

Open Metalcast Episode #178: Head in a Rocket

Here at the Open Metalcast headquarters were’coming up on the July 4th holiday. That can only mean one thing: a constant barrage of folks taking their hard-earned money and transforming it into displays of sound and color. That’s all good for them but we prefer to celebrate freedom by taking our hard-earned cash and transforming it into displays of the most amazing Creative Commons metal music the net has to offer. Gathered in this episode are the likes of Beastmaker, Goddess Of Fate, Blot, Antisoph, VOR, filferro, BLACKWYCH, and GENTEMAYOR. And unlike a fireworks display you can re-play this again and again and even share it with your friends. Its 100% better to share than mosquito repellent and unlike that potato salad that’s been out all afternoon it’s only guaranteed to give you sick riffs, not sick… well, you get the idea.

Open Metalcast Episode #177: Harnessing Chaos

Sometimes I like taking the whole Open Metalcast headquarters music library and put it on shuffle mode. This morning I decided to record an episode completely made up of these tracks. The only rule was that it couldn’t be something that I already played on the show (funnily enough one track didn’t make the cut because of that reason). This episode features tracks from Lords of the Trident, Thicket, Raging Steel, Mindwarp, Vanagloria, Gangrel, Colossal Figures, Digger, Mental Waste, tao te kin, and Dr. Zilog. I’m a little worried that the forces of chaos are going to put me out of a job making these playlists. Perhaps the computers really are taking over.
