Program Notes: OGG Vorbis in the house

Feb 01 2011

Wanted to tell everyone about the new OGG Vorbis feed. If you look on the right of the site, you'll see the MP3 and OGG feeds. Using the power of a slightly modified plugin, I now have the power of separating the feeds into the default feed (.mp3) and .ogg for the "audio and freedom connoisseurs".

And so you don't have to go hunting for it, the .ogg feed is available from here:

https://feeds.feedburner.com/OpenMetalcast/ogg

And for those who are curious what the changes were to the plugin, I've included those as well:

PLEASE let me know if you run into any problems with the feeds.

Program Notes

Jan 15 2011

Just finished uploading the latest Open Metalcast Episode (Episode #12, can you believe it?) Lots of great metal in this episode. I'm really looking forward to you hearing it. Should drop early morning on Tuesday.

I mentioned on the Open Metalcast identi.ca group (What? You didn't know about that? Well, head on over, and join fer cryin' out loud) that I was thinking of putting up .ogg files as well as .mp3 files. I'd love to hear what format you'd like to hear Open Metalcast in. Leave me a comment on this post for your preference.

I'm looking forward to bringing you an interview with Iron Thrones in the coming days. Their album "The Wretched Sun" is an awesome album, and I'm thrilled to get the chance to talk with them.

And, as always, I want to hear what Creative Commons metal you're listening to. I'm always looking for new artists and albums to feature on the show. Send me a note at craig@openmetalcast.com. Also, if your band would like an interview on the show, send me a note, and we'll see if we can work something out.

Stay metal, and stay "tuned" for more episodes of Open Metalcast!

Upcoming OpenMetalcast Episode #10

Dec 19 2010

Tomorrow marks a very special episode of Open Metalcast. This is our 10th episode of Open Metalcast, and it marks a milestone for the show. Not only have we brought you 64 tracks of bone-crushing metal music (not including the upcoming monster of Episode #10), but I've been able to have interviews with great friends like Jono Bacon of Severed Fifth. Plus, we have you magnificent people listening to the show, commenting on it, and creating an amazing open metal community. I'm extremely grateful for every tweet, comment, and request sent into the show. Definitely keep those coming!

Episode #10 will weigh in at over an hour of music, and includes almost all new artists never heard on the show before. Which brings me to another part of the show that I'm proud of: few repeating artists. Of those 64 tracks, only a handful are the same artist. That's an amazing amount of metal music in there, all Creative Commons licensed. However, there's a lot of great metal music that didn't get played by those artists, so I'm going to lift a little personal ban that I set, which was to try to not play the same artist twice. In upcoming episodes, you'll hear more tracks from the artists that we've already played, as well as new artists. The show is a musical journey for me, and I hope you enjoy the ride!

Most importantly, I want to thank every one of the bands that have put out this great music to make this show possible. They are the sole reason the show exists, and without them, it'd just be me and the microphone. So please support the artists in the show. All of the links to the bands have a way to support the band, so head on over there, click on the links, and support those who make the music and this show possible.

Looking forward to crushing your skulls in 2011 with the finest Creative Commons Metal!

Open MetalCast update (Where we're headed)

Aug 31 2010

Posted the second episode of Open MetalCast (Available from fine websites everywhere, as long as they're this site). Hope you enjoy this episode. This one was fun because I did some exploring looking for music for the latest Lococast episode and got into some pretty deep recesses of Jamendo. All of the artists on this episode are available from Jamendo. Still looking for some feedback from folks on some great Creative Commons metal artists, so if you have some pointers, feel free to let me know. My greatest fear is running out of artists, but I know there's a bunch out there waiting to be found, so send them my way.

Also, hoping to schedule an interview in the next few weeks for a special episode. Stay tooned!
